Unique gold bird claw hatpin!! This is one of the most unusual and beautiful Victorian hatpins that I have ever seen. The gold-washed bird claw is grasping a beautiful ball of lapis lazuli. The lapis is of very high quality. The claw itself appears to be gold over brass. Extremely Fine condition with no damage to the metal or the lapis. There is wear to the gold on the claw. This shows as dark tarnish in the photos. These areas could be polished to match the gold, but that process would remove more of the gold. Consequently, I have left the hatpin in its tarnished state. The stem is gold over silver with most of the gold worn off. Very straight stem.
