Swirling mauve glass! This long stemmed Victorian era hatpin features a carved mauve glass scarab at the top surrounded by gilded brass filigree. The Egyptian scarab beetle was a favorite theme of much Victorian jewelry. The oval glass cabochon is particularly gorgeous with milky swirls throughout. The color is mauve tending more toward the rose. Sadly, there is a tiny chip in the side of the scarab. (See photo with the arrow pointing to the chip.) Because the glass is so complicated with all of its swirls and carvings, the chip is not easy to see so truly does not detract from the beauty of the hatpin. 10-1/4 inches. The stem appears to have been gold over silver at one time but most of the gold has worn off so that it is mostly silver now.
