Victorian Brass & Topaz Glass Snake Pin

Victorian Brass & Topaz Glass Snake Pin Front
Victorian Brass & Topaz Glass Snake Pin Back

Elegant gilded serpents! This is an absolutely gorgeous Victorian gilded brass brooch featuring two coiling serpents. The snake design motif was extremely popular during the Victorian era. It was believed that the serpent symbolized eternal love. Queen Victoria herself greatly appreciated this design and wore a serpent engagment ring and bracelet. The bezel set faceted topaz glass stone is flanked on either side by a serpent. Excellent condition with no damage either to glass or metal. There is a small amount of darker patina to the brass but it appears that very little of the gilding has worn off the metal. The pin closes with an older 'C' style clasp and it does appear to be original with no repairs.(10147)

  • Circa: 1900-1915.
  • Dimensions: 2 inches x 1-1/8 inches.
  • Topaz Glass: 7mm x 15mm
  • Clasp: Old 'C' style
