Victorian Frosted Glass and Silver Hatpin

10115 Victorian Frosted Glass and Silver Hatpin
10115 Victorian Frosted Glass and Silver Hatpin

Very unusual! The glass is beautifully frosted but not marked Lalique so was not created by that Victorian glass artist who always signed his work. The top of this long stemmed silver Victorian hatpin is a most unique shape. It is much to perfect to have been sandblasted or frosted chemically. Its origins are a mystery. The stem tests positive for silver but is not marked sterling. The glass is in pristine condition and a wonder to behold. Victorian hatpins were very long in order to hold the large hats of that era on the heads of their owners. Sometimes, three and four of these long beauties would be used to hold a hat in place. I have a link on my Link Exchange page to an interesting article written by Maureen Timm and published in The Antique Shoppe newspaper on the history of hatpins. (Item #10115)
