The turquoise glass top on this beauty is quite large, 1" high and in perfect condition with no chips or fleabites of any kind. This is a long Victorian hatpin with a stem that does test positive for silver but is not marked sterling. Victorian hatpins were very long in order to hold the large hats of that era on the heads of their owners. Sometimes, three and four of these long beauties would be used to hold a hat in place. I have a link on my Link Exchange page to an interesting article written by Maureen Timm and published in The Antique Shoppe newspaper on the history of hatpins.
