Glossy French jet! This beautiful and very long Victorian silver hatpin is topped with a piece of black glass molded into a melon shape. The stem is somewhat tarnished but not damaged. The jet glass is in very good condition with some very, very tiny fleabites to the glass that can be seen with a jewelers loupe. The stem does test positive for silver but is not marked sterling. Very good conditon. Victorian hatpins were very long in order to hold the large hats of that era on the heads of their owners. Sometimes, three and four of these long beauties would be used to hold a hat in place. I have a link on my Link Exchange page to an interesting article written by Maureen Timm and published in The Antique Shoppe newspaper on the history of hatpins.
