This lovely hatpin is topped with a 10mm ball of amber colored celluloid. When submerged in hot water it gives off the unmistakable scent of camphor rather than the smell of burnt pine wood which is characteristic of true amber, the gemstone. The stem appears to have some silver content although it is not marked sterling. Just beneath the amber top is a vermeil, (gold gilt), embellishment. Excellent condition with no damage to the top or the metal parts.
