A very unique vintage 1940s hat created from what appears to be a type of fur felt with the fur left somewhat long on the outside. The inside of the hat is the typical short fur felt that many hats are made of. The appearance is unusual. On one side of the hat are two groupings of long black feather plumes. The feathers have been inserted through slits in the hat and the tips on the inside are covered with black grosgrain fabric that has been firmly secured to the hat. There are approximately 7 feathers in each group. Extremely Fine condition with no damage to feathers or fur. All feather tips are intact. The milliner's label is slightly soiled and reads, Edith Brown of Detroit. This hat is definitely a one of a kind. Size, Medium-Large. It fits the head rather like a cap so can be worn as a Small, Medium or Large. Measurement of inside edge is 25 inches. The plumes are 12 inches long. No inner hatband.
