Click on a thumbnail image to see enlarged images.

A flamboyant and very sculptural looking hat from the 1940s. Elaborately folded and shaped hats were extremely popular during this time period. Created from a heavy synthetic rust colored straw. A rust colored plume with a stem braided from the synthetic straw, embellishes the front of the hat. At the back is a grosgrain ribbon bow. The top of the hat is open. The milliner's label reads, Melbourne Original Design, New York, Detroit. Size 22. The hat measures 22 inches around the interior hatband. Extremely Fine condition with no damage to straw, ribbon or feather. The milliner's label is slightly soiled but other than that, the hat is extremely clean. Definitely a one of a kind.
