Uniquely lovely! This exceptionally beautiful Victorian hatpin is comprised of a carnival glass cameo mounted to an oval piece of French jet which is held in place by ornate brass prongs. Excellent vintage condition with no damage to the cameo, jet glass or metal parts. The brass has aged to a very nice patina but could be polished to a radiant shine if you so desired. Victorian hapins were quite long in order to hold the elaborate millinery creations of that time period on the heads of their owners. In addition they were known to be used by ladies to defend their 'virtue'. "Stand back, I have a hatpin."
